Optimizing cement production with the aid of digital twins

Production optimization systems for kiln lines and grinding plants in the cement industry based in the use of artificial neural networks were being installed many decades before the current boom in so-called “artificial intelligence”. Can the technological progress in the field of artificial intelligence now be used to develop “high-level controllers” that go permanently beyond the performance and practical feasibility of the earlier applications and therefore make a valuable contribution to cost-cutting and resource conservation in the cement industry? This article introduces a newly developed approach for such high-level controllers that is based on the use of digital twins.
