New way of evaluation of composite cement

Nowadays, the consideration of composite cements in the cement industry is indispensable. It is necessary to evaluate the performance of these cements so that the right grinding system can be chosen. Common questions are whether the main components should be ground separately or interground. Proven methods to characterize the fineness of cements, such as the Blaine value, sieving analysis or laser granulometry, come up against their limits in the case of composite cements and do not indicate the granulometric relationship between the main components. For this reason, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions has adapted the “Mineral Liberation Analysis” (MLA) method, originally designed for mining companies, to the needs of the cement industry. With this method it is possible to analyze a cement sample regarding the individual particle size distribution for each component. Furthermore, conclusions can be drawn about particle shapes and the grinding system used.
