The new friction welded chain from pewag
M. Scheibner, F. A. Fuchs, pewag austria GmbH, Graz, Austria
For many decades, the chain production process basically follows the same pattern: a wire rod or rolled bar is cut to length and bent to the required shape of the chain link, followed by energy-intensive resistance welding. However, the days of conventional chain manufacturing at pewag are numbered. The future has a name: friction welding. Friction welding offers numerous advantages compared to traditional chain manufacturing. In comparison to the round link chain the new friction welded chain is characterized by an increased wear resistance of approximately 30 %.
