Ciment Québec – Canada implements first Loesche slide-in-mill concept
L. Papillon, D. Gagnon, Ciment Québec Inc., St. Basile, Québec, Canada; Ch. Oesch, Loesche America Inc., Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA
The decision was made to raise the throughput of the raw mill in the cement works of the Canadian cement manufac-turer Ciment Québec when, after several modernization projects, the mill no longer had sufficient capacity. Before proceeding with the project various schemes were discussed with Loesche America. The examination covered raising the throughput of the existing mill, installation of a completely new grinding plant, and replacement of the existing mill with another mill that was to be placed on the existing foundations and make use of the existing peripherals. On cost grounds as well as with respect to the time required the third solution proved to be the most effective, but also the most complex. In this project it was necessary to remove the existing mill completely from the mill building and insert the new mill, assembled on site from prefabricated components, using the slide-in technique. The article describes the planning phase of the modernization project as well as the installation of the mill, and also provides a summary of the most important operating results.
